Occupational safety and environmental protection

The health and safety of every individual working in the Bilfinger Berger Facility Services Group is our top priority. We can only achieve our corporate objectives if we commit to continually optimizing occupational safety, promoting exchange of information and experience between units and minimizing risks through putting in place appropriate training, certification and equipment. Adhering to all relevant laws, provisions and regulations as well as company regulations is a matter of course.

Health and safety at work is the responsibility of management.

  • Our managers are responsible for health and safety in their areas. They serve as a model and motivate their employees to act in a safety-conscious way. They create and maintain safe and healthy working conditions in their areas and regularly conduct safety training. They work consistently and without compromise to counteract unsafe behavior and do not tolerate any violations of the occupational health and safety regulations. They both encourage and require open communication on occupational health and safety in an environment where employee suggestions are welcomed. By ensuring their employees receive appropriate qualifications and training, our managerial staff create the conditions necessary to work in a safe, precautionary way.

Our employees play an active role in ensuring safety at work.

  • Employees of the Bilfinger Berger Facility Services Group avoid dangerous situations through careful, precautionary behavior. Defects and hazards are immediately reported and employees are actively involved in creating a safe workplace and work processes. All employees observe the company and work specific regulations on occupational health and safety.
  • A systematic reporting system is in place for the purposes of continually improving occupational safety. Key data on accident frequency (LTIF), severity and cause are analyzed and appropriate steps are taken. Frequent communication within all companies (occupational safety committee) and between companies (occupational safety working group) completes the procedures in place to optimize performance of the health and safety system.

The principles of occupational safety and sustainable procurement apply for business partners and suppliers.

  • The principles of occupational health and safety are also applied in our procurement processes. The same safety standards apply for employees working for external companies. They are included in our reporting system.
  • We expect our business partners, subcontractors and suppliers to attach the same high priority to the health and safety of their employees and to ensure appropriate provisions are implemented.
  • Environmental aspects (resource conservation, environmental management) are incorporated into the evaluation process when purchasing products and services. We reach framework agreements with partners who optimize their services and products in consideration of environmental and sustainability aspects. We have introduced evaluation criteria for this purpose.

The protection of the environment secures our future.

  • Bilfinger Berger Facility Services GmbH and its subsidiaries are "environmentally responsible" partners in the environment in which they are active. We react quickly and responsibly to rectify incidents or events which endanger health, safety or the environment. If necessary, the authorities are notified immediately and affected members of the public are informed. Incident causes are thoroughly analyzed via the central reporting system and sustainable preventive measures implemented. Naturally, we also conduct checks to ensure that these measures are effective and the desired goals are achieved.
  • Effective environmental protection measures are already an integral part of the implementation phase of new projects. We guarantee environmentally-friendly utilization of resources, particularly in customer-specific, operational work processes.
  • Waste is carefully separated and disposal concepts developed in order to recycle as much as possible. We take the utmost precautions with hazardous substances in order to protect soil and water.
