Lifecycle approach for real estate and plants

Sustainability is a core part of our lifecycle approach to the management of real-estate, plants and infrastructure. The operation phase in particular has a significant influence on sustainability aspects.

Environment: Almost half of final energy in Germany is used in the construction and operation of buildings.

Economy: The cost of operating buildings exceeds the cost of construction many times over.

Sociocultural: People spend an average of 90% of their lives in enclosed spaces (buildings, facilities).

Through research projects, we support current developments and opportunities in facility services and together with our customers, optimize facility management processes.

We have been very successful in the implementation of public-private partnership projects (PPP), where we are responsible for the planning, construction and operation for up to 30 years of public sector real-estate. Operations management in facility management and preventive maintenance ensure real estate value retention and an optimal work environment.

It goes without saying that we have a responsible approach to energy use and that we analyze energy consumption and investigate opportunities for energy conservation. Improvement of energy efficiency, optimization of plant technology and the use of renewable energy sources are top priority where technically and economically feasible. For this purpose, the energy consumption and flows in buildings are continuously recorded, analyzed, monitored and regulated using energy management systems.

We ensure the conservation of natural resources by re-using and recycling materials. Wherever they can, our companies ensure purchasing of recycled material and use of recycled packaging and other material is implemented.
The companies of Bilfinger Berger Facility Services GmbH, together with their customers, take part in sustainability programs for the improvement of environmental protection, resource conservation and the sharing of environmental protection technologies. Using our knowledge and methods, together we develop sustainable solutions.
